Entry for April 16, 2009 - Rhone Rivals
photo
I had been going through a bunch of white wines recently and I think because I was hoping that Spring would be here to stay. But, I still seem to only feel satisfied when we pop open a bottle of red. Tonight it was the screwcap bottle of D'Arenberg's The Stump Jump 2006 - McLaren Vale, Australia. A blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre it's a New World Cotes du Rhone. My first glass was a bit cool as I drank it straight out of my 57 degree wine refrigerator but, as it warmed up, the spice and fruit became very apparent. As I sit here writing this over 1/2 hour since finishing my last glass, the pepper is still there. It is a nice fruity and spicey wine that is a fantastic bargain at under $10.00 a bottle. A perfect wine for these hard economic times.
Cheers,
