Entry for February 19, 2009 - I love Italy continued...
Having finished the Alois Aglianico early in the evening the other night we opened another delicious Italian red the
Cantina Convento Muri-Gries Lagrein 2006- Alto Adige. Another somewhat unknown grape varietal Lagrein is found in this Northern region known as the Suditrol or (sud tryol - south of the Tyrol.) It is a cousin to Syrah producing dark and rich wines. The Muri-Gries was earthy and full-bodied with lots of dark cherry flavors and some minerality. Although most likely a good wine to pair with hearty meats it was very enjoyable just to sip on its own. For such an elegant wine the price is right as well. Cost approx: $15.00
Cheers,
