Here comes my first wine review for some time.
I was supposed to be in the Bahamas this week but, of-course, all those plans were canceled. However, my son is still off from school and I decided I will keep him company during his vacation time and try to enjoy a little time with him while he still doesn't mind it so much. Anyway, I suggested we head off to one of Hoboken's great Italian delis and pick up some sandwiches for lunch. We went to Fiores where the mozzarella is made fresh every day and there meats are fresh as can be. I chose a genoa salami and mozz hero with roasted red peppers, oil and vinegar. The 2 guys had prosciutto with mozz. We also had some fresh cerignola olives. We sat down, took our first bites and my husband asked me where the wine was. I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of that. I really am slipping. But, I quickly pulled out a bottle of Aglianico that I have been wanting to try. The
Alois Campole Aglianico 2005 Campania, Italy. I have been loving wines from Southern Italy and although they have been known more for their whites, this red from the aglianico grape is worth seeking out. The Alois Campole was full-bodied with smooth tannins and nice berry flavors. I noted some licorice on the palate as well and always love that. It's definitely a wine to have with food and I thoroughly enjoyed it with my salami and mozz but I can see it being terrific with heavier meats such as lamb. I am ready for another bottle. Cost approx $25
Cheers,
