I am sure you are all waiting to find out about my pseudo high school reunion so let me just tell you it was a fantastic night. Sitting in a glorious apartment in NYC, sipping some interesting wines and catching up with a group of friends from so long ago, it really was a special night. And, as I had hoped, my friend and host, did not disappoint with the wines. I was thankful to him for making a list that he emailed me the next days so I didn't have to stop and chase empty bottles for the information.
Everyone was fascinated with my line of work and I got to emphasize that even a night like we we were having was part of my "job." It is always nice to combine work and play. So let's get started with the wines. We had:
Feudi San Gregorio Falanghina 2006
Martin Codax Albarino 2007
Yarden Mount Hermon White 2006
Paul Jaboulet Aine Parallel 45 2006
Teal Lake Shiraz 2007
Recanati Syrah 2005
The Falanghina from the Campania region of Italy is a wine I have had many times before. It is a crisp, fresh wine that is rather aromatic and quite refreshing. It is a nice wine that is easy to drink on its own. Cost approx: $13.99
Albarino is another crisp and refreshing white that I enjoy. The Martin Codax was lighter than some and would be a terrific summer sipper. Cost approx: $10.99
Yarden Mount Hermon White is a blend of Chardonay & Sauvignon Blanc and is an easy drinking wine. Cost approx: $10.99
The Paul Jaboulet Parallel 45 is a popular Cotes du Rhones that is a terrific choice for a variety of palates. It's a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah and is light and easy drinking table wine. Cost approx: $9.99
The Teal Lake Shiraz from South Australia had interesting licorice notes to it that I really like. It was quite a light Shiraz and another easy drinker. Cost approx: $12.99
The final Syrah from Recanati was most likely my least favorite wine of the night and, surprisingly, the most expensive. Perhaps by the time I was tasting this wine my palate had had enough but I don't remember anything about it. Perhaps I will have to try that one again to be fair. Cost approx: $15.99
My friend chose these wines as he explained how he is interested in wines that have between 12.5 - 13.5% alcohol. Notice not one single California wine as they are usually always way over that level. I am hopeful that there will be some lower alcohol wines soon that I will be able to share with my friends.
Cheers,
The Wining Woman
