Entry for October 06, 2008- Finger Lakes Fabulousness
photo

Ok. I'm not sure that fabulousness is actually a word but it should be. It certainly fits the description of the latest wine I had from the Finger Lakes. The wine is Standing Stone Vineyards Smokehouse White Semi-Dry Vidal Blanc - Lodi, NY. I realize that I bought the wine at the winery so I must have liked it when I tasted it but, sometimes, you get home and the wine just isn't the same. Happily, this wine not only was as good but even better. It was incredibly crisp and refreshing with lots of tropical fruitiness and had such a nice intense mouthfeel. It was obvious the wine was fermented in stainless steel keeping the true flavors of the vidal blanc grapes. These grapes are most widely planted in the Northeastern U.S. where they thrive and can create some excellent wines such as this one. While most people wouldn't necessarily seek out a Vidal Blanc wine, I highly recommend finding the Standing Stone. Cost approx: $9.00.
Cheers,
