Entry for May 8, 2008

Today is Israel's 60th birthday! The entire country must be celebrating her independence today and I am sure lots of wine is being drunk! On that note, last Sunday I had the privelege to present a talk and wine tasting of Israeli wines at the Jewish Community Center of Scotch Plains, NJ. Thanks to Coolvines in Westfield, NJ the wines provided were all first rate. They included the Golan Heights Winery Sparkling Blancs de Blanc 2000  Yarden Gewurtztraminer, Yarden Mount Hermon Red and Galil Mountain Yiron 2004 Bordeaux Blend. The Golan Heights Winery is one of Israel's premier producers that had their first release in 1983. Since that time and as of today, there are over 150 wineries, many of them boutique, producing world class quality wine.

While the tasting was being enjoyed by the 45 or so that could fit in the room, there was a full celebration throughout the center taking place with music, food, dance  and other talks including the Governor. I am happy to say I  was able to meet the Governor and let him know what an enjoyable wine tasting he missed.

Cheers,

The Wining Woman
