Entry for April 12, 2008- A Winery Grows in Brooklyn

Falling in love with the Red Hook area of Brooklyn, California winemaker, Abe Schoener is making wine there. Using only New York grapes..he plans to have his first "New York" wines out in the market in a year's time. He says he really knows nothing about the wines from New York but the area is an intriguing one. Seems he is not the only one to love Brooklyn for wine. There are already 2 other commercial winemakers -- Brooklyn Oenology in Greenpoint and Bridge Vineyards in Williamsburg.

The feeling is that most wine is sold in tasting rooms so why not create that atmosphere in an urban environment? Sounds okay to me. Only wish they would allow more of that in New Jersey too.

Cheers,
